Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and answers from First Event attendees.
Payment Policy Online payment via the Registration System’s safe and secure website is the preferred method of payment. You may mail a check or money order (no cash will be accepted).
Confirmation Policy No registration will be honored without pre-payment. Registration and/or payment received after January 15, 2019 will be subject to availability. You will receive a confirmation email once your registration and payment have been processed. If you do not receive an email within 4 days (or 10 days if mailing), please contact us at email@example.com
First Event Security Team First Event and TCNE believe that the security of each attendee at the conference is of utmost importance. Whether this is your first time or 30th time coming to the conference, we now that a safe environment is important to everyone. Once again First Event will be having our own professionally trained security personnel to help with emergencies during the event and also uniform local police available during the evening social hours. In the past this has proven both very popular for all attendees.
What is included in my First Event registration? Your conference package determines which meals, events and activities you will be able to partake of. When you visit the First Event registration desk, you will be given your registration packet which includes the conference program booklet, your conference badge, meal & activity tickets (as applicable) and various other material.
What workshops will be offered? Workshops are posted on daily schedule pages as the schedules are filled out. While workshops change every year, you can get a pretty good sense of the types of workshops by reading previous years’ program books. Note that First Event 2019 is expected to have significantly increased numbers of workshops targeting transmasculine attendees and transgender people of color, along with a dedicated track of workshops on transgender health and wellness.
What do I wear? Typical attire is casual during the day and dressier in the evening, but attendees are encouraged to present in the way that they are most comfortable. Most attendees choose to dress semi-formal or festive for the Friday night Fashion Show and the same or formal for the Saturday night Banquet.
Which restroom do I use? Massachusetts affirms the rights of transgender people to use the bathroom consistent with their gender identity or expression, so use the restroom which is right for you. All-gender restrooms will also be available.
Can someone who is not transgender or gender expansive attend? Absolutely! We welcome any and all people with an interest in learning more about and connecting with the transgender and gender expansive community. First Event offers programming specifically targeting parents and partners of transgender and gender expansive people. Many attendees are friends, allies, and professionals who support transgender and gender expansive people. First Event is also a great event for people who are questioning their gender identity or expression.
Can I take photos or videos at the conference? Yes, as long as you respect the privacy of those who do not wish to be photographed. Attendees who do not wish to be photographed will have red dots on their badges.
Are their CEUs available for therapists who attend the conference? CEUs are not offered for therapists attending First Event.
Who operates First Event? The First Event Conference is hosted by the Trans Club of New England (TCNE), a Massachusetts non-profit 501(c)(3) registered charitable organization that has been serving the Transgender community since 1978.
